New York City

We decided to get married in NYC because it was one of the few states that had full marriage equality. We knew planning a destination wedding was going to be challenging but thankfully through recommendations of friends, we found Claudia. She made the entire creative and planning process extremely easy, straight-forward, and really fun. Claudia immediately understood our aesthetic, offered new ideas we loved, and made our wedding an absolute smashing success.

– Grant & Gabe

I loved working on a destination wedding in our home city. The enthusiasm that Grant and Gabe have for New York, the wedding, the party, their guests’ experience and the design process made the process a joy and the event simply perfect! TWL_gochnauer_1

You can’t get a better sense of New York than from the middle of Park Avenue or a better ceremony backdrop than from a rooftop at Rockefeller Center. All that was needed were these clean Bellini chairs to set the stage.

The Wedding Library invitation and letterpress stationery suite used crisp fonts, clean spacing and sizing. The charcoal gray folder and inks were a sophisticated accent. When I found these “Rockefeller Center” cufflinks, I knew I had to buy them for the grooms.

The escort card table arrangements were inspired by a similar style seen at the George V hotel in Paris. The modern table, stark wall and precisely placed cards finish the architectural look.

All of the stationery had subtle, blind embossed patterns – dots, stripes and grids punctuate the invitation, menu, program, table number and escort cards.

Although the day was glorious, a sudden sun shower took us all by surprise. In an instant, Wedding Library umbrellas were passed out to all.

No one was too bothered by the rain and everyone remarked on the view of the stunning lucky rainbow that followed.

Although rain was not forecasted, we prudently had umbrellas on hand. They made for a useful favor as the rain began again at the very end of the party. I had matching handkerchiefs embroidered with the grooms’ initials – they too came in handy!

The chic cake design mirrored the patterns from the stationery suite. We artfully placed the fresh orchid blossoms right before guests entered the room. The clean loft space retains several art deco touches from the original construction. We love the way the highly stylized blooms work with the space.

The dining room had perfectly fitted and pressed Wedding Library Collection linens, milky chargers and white patterned votives. We loved the fig trees bordering the room and the crisp fresh green and white color palette.

A variety of vases, greens, floating candles and succulents created an ever-changing tableau for guests.

The constructed centerpieces contained calla lilies, tulips, orchids, hydrangea blossoms, ferns and crisp greens.

Our math skills came in handy when calculating table lengths, place settings and room constraints for this precisely arranged room.

The use of unexpected flowers, textures and shades of green and white were important to keep the look interesting and vibrant.

Even the table numbers were printed in the wedding font. Every detail kept the look consistent and purposeful.

It was as important to me as to the couple that the look was precise, clean and perfect.

We loved that there was not a “bad” seat in the house. The grooms sit amongst family and friends.

The wedding look extended to our choice of caterer – they made every detail as clean and “in theme” as the décor. Every tray, piece of china, glassware and silverware was carefully thought through and as well designed as the menu.

Guests feasted on locally harvested food, and a meal that was seasonally designed. Each dish was, of course, delicious.

As the sun went down, guests were treated to a whole new view of NYC.

Rockefeller Center is a quintessential backdrop for a destination wedding in New York. Incredible custom lighting added a whole new look to the dance party that followed dinner.

The reflecting pool looks magical with Saks Fifth Avenue as its backdrop. The outdoor terrace (and erstwhile ceremony site) is ready for the after-party guests.

I couldn’t resist bringing this “Just Married” prop for Grant and Gabe – it was a great final shot with which to end the night.
